From 1st March 1999 C Jeffrey Black and Lizars merged to form Black & Lizars. With the merger of two of Scotland’s oldest and best known optometric groups an exciting, enlarged company has been created which will capitalise on the strengths of both businesses, namely quality, service and value in a technically advanced, highly professional environment. C Jeffrey Black grew in Glasgow from a single, highly successful and popular east end practice started in 1941 by Colin Black’s father Oscar Black, to become Glasgow South Business of the Year in 1997. The business focussed on being the optometrist that the “thinking” patient would choose. Lizars, on the other hand, was founded in 1830 and was one of Scotland’s oldest family firms. The company flourished in the optical, photographic and scientific instruments areas and became arguably Scotland’s best known name in optics. It is our intention that Black & Lizars will continue to strive for the highest standards of service, quality and value. The company now has 25 practices, throughout Scotland and Belfast. We have developed into a multi-faceted business, aiming to be the “first choice optician” by offering the very latest technology, clinical excellence and fashion without abandoning the basic but vitally important precepts of service, quality and value. We are committed to professional advancement and training for all our staff.
