JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY JOB TITLE: Senior Nursery Nurse / Third in Charge SUPERVISOR’S TITLE: Manager / Deputy *OFSTED National Standards for Full Day Care, Scottish Executive National Care Standards for Early Education and Child Care and the Welsh Standards.
PRIMARY PURPOSE — Briefly summarise the primary purpose of this position. Provide overall management and supervision of one or more rooms. Ensure the Centre team provides a safe and nurturing environment for children that encourages their social, emotional, physical, and intellectual development. Design and implement developmentally appropriate curriculum according to the guidelines established by Bright Horizons Family Solutions and the relevant National Standards*. Ensure safety and supervision of children at all times by meeting the physical demands of the position. Provide primary care in the room, model exemplary behaviour, and lead staff in all responsibilities listed below. MAJOR FUNCTIONS / RESPONSIBILITIES — Describe the major responsibilities of this job. Supervisory/Administrative: To assist in the induction and mentoring of new staff. Contribute to performance appraisals including regular observations and feedback. Complete appropriate paperwork to meet Bright Horizons Family Solutions. Review room programmes. Organise room transitions by leading planning and communication with parents, staff, and children. Staff/Child Interactions: Supervise staff and model interactions to communicate frequently, affectionately, and respectfully with children. Model and lead appropriate behaviour and expectations. Be attentive, flexible, and supportive of children and their families. Practice and model positive behaviour management techniques. Curriculum: Design and implement developmentally appropriate curriculum, materials, activities, and environments. Demonstrate respect for diversity, independence, and creativity. Provide choice and maintain flexibility. Document children’s accomplishments and developmental profiles. Staff/Parent Interactions: Acknowledge and respond to all parents and visitors with a friendly, courteous, and professional manner. Invite input on child’s development and care. Communicate at daily drop-off/pick-up and through meetings, events, and meetings. Health/Safety/Nutrition: Supervise children, following all safety and health requirements. Monitor the number of children in group at all times and maintain ratios. Ensure attendance and head-count records are accurate and complete. Keep environment safe, organised, and accessible to children. Professionalism: Maintain confidentiality. Ensure continuity of care through satisfactory attendance and attend all required meetings/training. Demonstrate knowledge and flexibility of child care practices, continuing ongoing professional growth. Teamwork: Establish and maintain a relationship of cooperation and respect. Participate in and lead room and Centre responsibilities. Participate in teaching team, communicating directly and resolving conflicts quickly and professionally.
