| LOCATION: Standard Life House - Edinburgh DEPARTMENT: Shared Services–Group Occupational Health & Safety JOB TITLE: Occupational Health Nurse SALARY INFORMATION: Expected Salary circa £30k (Specialist Band C) Dependent on experience salary is not a barrier 9 – 12 MONTH CONTRACT (covering Maternity Leave) BACKGROUND The Occupational Health & Safety team is an internal function based at Standard Life House on Lothian Road. They are a small team consisting of 2 nurses, 3 Health & Safety professionals and 2 administration support staff and have an external Occupational Health Physician who carries out clinics once a week. The Occupational Health team carry out the full range of functions from managerial/self referral case management to pre employment screening and health surveillance. This year they are aiming to undertake some more health promotion ranging from electronic communications to manning stands throughout some of our Head Office buildings. An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Occupational Health Nurse to join the Group Occupational Health & Safety Team in Shared Services to cover a maternity leave for 9-12 months. Reporting to the Group Occupational H&S Advisor, you will be part of a small team which provides a comprehensive occupational health and safety service to the UK Operating Companies. The successful candidate will be competent in case management, health surveillance and pre employment screening. Excellent written and verbal communications skills are essential. If you are able to work with the minimum of supervision and have the ability to remain calm under pressure, this role may be the one you have been looking for. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES • Providing case management assessments – assessing both individual and management to help reduce sickness absence and promote the health and well-being of employees. • Maintaining the highest standards of Occupational Health delivery – ensuring medical confidentiality • Delivery of health surveillance in line with current legislation. • Liasing with GP’s, consultants and other health specialists. • Ability to work unsupervised on your own intitative and as part of a team. KEY PERSONAL CRITERIA REQUIRED Customer focus Knowing who your customers are, meeting their needs & taking responsibility for the service delivered to them. Teamwork You will be able to work collaboratively within Group Occupational Health and Safety and also across the division with colleagues to provide a complete service to customers. Communicating and Influencing Your communication and influencing style will be very much in evidence as you deal with people at all levels, sharing your opinions/advice and supporting rationale, effectively influencing customers. Decision making and judgement Exercising your expertise and judgement in evaluating each situation you will be prepared to make decisions which best meet the objectives in hand to quickly resolve any issues. Interpersonal sensitivity/skills You will respond positively to individual needs and preferences and deal sensitively with information of a highly confidential nature. TECHNICAL CRITERIA REQUIRED: Essential: • Registered General Nurse • Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health Nursing • Able to work on own initiative • Good communication skills • Report writing skills Desirable: • IT literate in word and excel • 1-2 years experience of working in an Occupational health service |
